Born in the golden place

VIK was created in Millahue, in the Cachapoal Valley: a vineyard that embodies the perfect fusion between humans, experience, land, climate and high technology. In 2004 Alex and Carrie Vik set out with the audacious goal of making one of the world’s best wines. After a two-year scientific search they found the best terroir in South America.

The vineyard was born in the foothills of the Andes, in the Millahue Valley, named “Lugar de Oro”, the Golden Place, by the Mapuche people: 4,300 hectares of astonishing Chilean wilderness, with more than 327 hectares of vines, in twelve valleys each with its own micro-climate.

The winery was designed by the Chilean architect Smiljan Radic after an international competition in 2007. Its roof gives the impression of an enormous sleek white wing suspended over the underground structure; a sloping plaza of running water leads to it, and the barrel room ends in a wall painted by Eduardo Cardozo with his interpretation of the strata of the terroir.
